WHAT IS EOSINOPHILIC ESOPHAGITIS (EoE)?
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic, inflammatory disorder of the esophagus characterized by eosinophilic inflammation and symptoms related to esophageal dysfunction.1-3
Symptoms associated with eosinophilic esophagitis include1,2,4,5:
- Dysphagia
- Upper abdominal pain
- Chest pain
- Painful swallowing
- Food impaction
Incidence6,7
Approximately 1-20 new cases per
100,000 people per year
Estimated Prevalence8
22.7 cases per 100,000
(95% CI 12.4-36.0)
THE ROLE OF EOSINOPHILIC IMMUNE DYSFUNCTION IN EOSINOPHILIC ESOPHAGITIS
Dysregulated immune responses lead to the recruitment and activation of eosinophils,
potentially causing eosinophilic inflammation and symptoms associated with
esophageal dysfunction.9-11

IMPACT OF EOSINOPHILIC ESOPHAGITIS ON PATIENTS
Eosinophilic esophagitis is a lifelong, progressive disease that can significantly impact patients’ quality of life.12-14
